The direct causes of most breast cancer have not been identified as yet but several risk factors are known. For instance, the risk increases gradually with age and three-quarters of women developing breast cancer will develop it after the menopause. Furthermore, for certain 5% of the people there will be a family hereditary or genetic component. Also, we know that women who experienced a breast cancer previously have an increased risk of developing another breast cancer.
